Ahoy, sailors!
Nell Kessler here! I joined the writing team for Man Up after being a Man Up fangirl, and I wouldn’t be here today if not for Maggie reminding me about the submission deadline. Man Up quickly became one of my favorite pockets of the comedy community and some of my work of which I’m most proud.
Some more things I’m proud of:
I’ve been co-hosting comedy-variety show “Energizer Honeys” for four years. We’ve performed to packed-out houses at Littlefield and also just started our first show/open mic hybrid “Fully Charged”!
I’m starring in upcoming found footage horror-thriller “MAN FINDS TAPE” from Rustic Films, which wrapped shooting this Spring in Austin, TX.
My half hour comedy pilot “Clue Castle” was a Finalist at this year’s ATX TV Festival Pitch Competition. The judges said “pretty clear, we don’t have any questions”!!
Some things I’m less proud of:
My hair sheds a lot and the other day I got Taco Bell during daylight hours.
I’m so excited to be headed to Fringe this year, especially because I’m the kind of girl who loves to bring up her trip abroad. It’s really where I thrive.
Man Up is a women-created comedy show transcending the boundaries of political satire, drag, and social commentary. The show stars Chip Johnson, a blowhard pundit who believes he knows women better than they know themselves (played by comedian Maggie Metnick in drag).
This summer, we are performing Man Up at Edinburgh Fringe, the largest performing arts festival in the world. This is our greatest writing and producing challenge yet, but also an incredible opportunity for Man Up to grow.
